COVID-19 UPDATE – MARCH 26, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

  • We have our first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Bancroft community.

We would like to assure the community and patients that this was a person that travelled abroad and has followed the self quarantine protocol since returning home to Canada.  Due to limited testing availability, we should assume that there are other probable unrelated cases through community transmission that are not yet confirmed.

Everyone needs to continue to do their part with social/physical distancing and self isolation to prevent the spread of COVID -19 as much as possible.

This will allow our health care system to focus resources on helping those individuals that need it the most.

SOME COMMON QUESTIONS WE ARE GETTING:

  • I have no symptoms of COVID-19, but I want to get tested to make sure that I don’t have it, why can’t I get tested?

If you contract the virus it can take up to 14 days to have symptoms, during that time evidence shows that you may test negative.  Some people that have COVID never show any symptoms.  The only way to prevent the spread of the virus is strict physical distancing.

  • I have mild symptoms of COVID-19 and I want to get tested, but I was told to stay at home and self isolate for 14 days and was not tested.  Why?

There is a critical shortage for the testing agent worldwide for COVID-19.  The Ministry of Health has developed strict guidelines for testing, it is being prioritized for those patients that need it most.  If you have mild symptoms, assume you have COVID-19.  Please stay home and treat your symptoms appropriately.

If you have any questions, please call our office, do not attend the ER.
