About the Bancroft Community FHT –

Providing Disease Prevention and Patient Education Through A Collaborative, Multidisciplinary Approach

Dr. Greg Cooper and Dr. Carolyn Brown moved to Bancroft in 1986. In 2006 the initiative to start the Bancroft Community Family Health Team (BCFHT) came to light.  The BCFHT is intimately connected with the community, and has always steered towards a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to health care. A registered charity, made up of a mixed board of health care providers and Hastings County residents, the entire town benefits from a diverse group of medical and community experts who are better able to make informed and balanced decisions. The Family Health Team works collaboratively with The Medical Clinic Physician’s in the area who further contribute to the community by providing ER, Chief of Staff, coroner and long term care services; rural health, LHIN and hospital committee participation; as well as supporting and developing local educational resources (including Public Health and Sexual Health), health promotion eventsChronic Disease Management Programs, and specialist clinics. Specialist healthcare can be accessed in town each month, or supported remotely via the Ontario Telemedicine Network (an innovative system that uses two-way videoconferencing between doctor and patient) giving patients the freedom to manage their health closer to home.

Collaboration In Business For Bancroft: The Bancroft Community Family Health Team’s sound financial structure, managed by Sandra McGrath allows for continual service expansion to accommodate an ever-growing roster of patients and physicians. In fact, the team of Allied Health Professionals quickly outgrew their first location (Billa Street) and built a state-of-the-art facility (next door to the North Hastings Hospital, for the convenience of doctors and patients) in 2013, adding another positive element to the Bancroft community, such as stimulated local business growth, weekend clinics and extended hours. In 2019 the Bancroft Community Family Health Team and the North Hastings Family Health Team amalgamated and became one, now known as the Bancroft Community Family Health Team. In 2020 the Bancroft Community Family Health Team expanded their offices. They now operate out of the 19 Oak Street location, as well as the newly renovated 16 Billa Street location and 1 Manor Lane.
