What is Pulmonary Rehabilitation?

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program of exercise, education and counseling designed to help patients live a healthier lifestyle while living with chronic respiratory disease.  This program will help patients to regain some strength, increase fitness levels, and learn how to maintain a maximum level of health and function.

The program offers the following;

  • A 12-week pulmonary care program.
  • Two supervised exercise sessions each week, offered in-clinic or virtually to support physical distancing.
  • Education sessions to support healthy respiratory management. Topics include physiology of the lungs, exercise, medication use, nutrition, and social support.

Who can attend?

Education is designed for patients living with the pulmonary diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  Other respiratory conditions may be considered, such as:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic Bronchitis
  • Emphysema

Please note: For those participants directed to attend an in-clinic class, the program is held at Physio North at 17 York River Drive Unit 6, in Bancroft.
